EVRAZ effectively implements projects within the company.
Projects are gaining to reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.
Since 2011, EVRAZ ZSMK has been implementing a program of water resources protection, the tasks of which are a gradual transition to a closed system of water circulation and minimizing the volume of discharged water. In 2017, during the implementation of the program, fresh water withdrawal decreased by 4.4 million m3, and the volume of water discharge into rivers decreased by 3.4 million m3 per year.
EVRAZ ZSMK put into operation two dust collectors with bag filters to replace outdated wet dust cleaning plants carried away by flue gases. New equipment reduces dust emissions from sinter production by 22%. The commissioning of the four planned installations provides filtration of 900,000 m3 of air per hour with the removal of more than 99% of impurities.
Since 2011, the Raspadskaya mine has been implementing a program to protect water resources by upgrading equipment for filtering water pumped from mines and quarries. In 2017, a water filtration unit using pressure flotation technology was put into operation at the Raspadskaya-Koksovaya mine with subsequent additional treatment of wastewater in a high-speed filtration and disinfection system. Previously, the Group has already used this technology in the Uskovskaya and Erunakovskaya-8 mines. Part of the filtered water will be reused in the production cycle, and the rest will be directed to discharge into rivers in accordance with all environmental standards.
Coal Segment Recruitment Center
High coal prices and an improvement in the economic situation caused rapid growth in the coal segment, where new mines and opencast mines were put into operation and production increased at existing enterprises. Ultimately, this led to a shortage of qualified personnel, both at the level of senior staff and line personnel.
In July 2018, work began on the creation of a coal recruitment center for the coal segment. The center reached its planned performance in September and helped significantly increase the staffing of coal enterprises at all levels. Currently, the center's employees are working to increase the positive image of the Group as an employer and expand the geography of personnel search.
EVRAZ ZSMK reduces water intake from the Tom river
EVRAZ ZSMK commissioned a new sludge thickening unit for the blast furnace gas treatment system. The new equipment will reduce the annual volume of wastewater and water intake from the Tom River by almost 3 million cubic meters.
Previously, the water that was used to clean the blast furnace gas was sent to the sludge storage facility. Now water is directed to a machine that separates and thickens the sludge. The clarified water is reused in production, which provides a closed loop water supply to the blast furnace.
In 2019, EVRAZ ZSMK plans to install similar equipment in the second oxygen-converter shop, which will reduce the annual volume of water intake by another 1.5 million cubic meters. This will provide a closed water supply to the main metallurgical workshop.
